Northstar Montessori, under the direction of Tami Elliott, has been providing quality care for children since 2004. We are an independently owned and operated business whose number one priority is the success of your child. In 2019 we combined two locations into one beautiful facility. We provide a safe, loving, home like environment for children to learn and grow using the Montessori method.

Our Philosophy

Young children learn by doing.They acquire knowledge about their world through playful interaction with objects and people. Children are motivated to learn by their own desire to make sense of their world. We are committed to providing a developmentally appropriate program with the help of trained teachers using a variety of materials and equipment. We engage children in an environment that is child-initiated, child-directed, and teacher supported.

What Makes Montessori Education Unique?

Recognizing that children learn in different ways, the Montessori Method accommodates all learning styles. Children are free to learn at their own pace, each advancing as s/he is ready, guided by the teacher and an individualized learning plan. Working within parameters set by their teachers, the children are active participants in deciding what their focus of learning will be. Internal satisfaction drives the child’s curiosity and interest, which results in joyous learning that is sustainable over a lifetime.

The “Prepared Environment”

In order for self-directed learning to take place, the whole learning environment—the room, the materials, and the social climate—must be supportive of the learner. By providing the necessary resources, including opportunities for children to function in a safe and positive climate, the teacher thus gains the child’s trust, which enables him/her to try new things and build self-confidence.
